Successful closure of the RENOLIT Junior Company 2023

Junior staff donate project proceeds to the AWO-Förderverein Worms

For the eleventh time, trainees and dual students from RENOLIT in Worms founded the junior company project and sold their self-developed product for a good cause. The twelve RENOLIT junior employees in their second year of training have been working independently on the production, marketing and sale of their product since November 2023. In the process, they gained insights into the complexity of entrepreneurial processes and the management of their own company. Just in time for Easter, the junior company presented the proceeds of the project to the AWO-Förderverein in Worms.

The product chosen by the junior company was a product set containing a snow globe called "Renosphere" and a self-moulded candle. The junior employees used leftover PET film from RENOLIT as the "snow" for the snow globe. The ball was wrapped with aluminium brush-look waste film. The Worms Cathedral and the Christmas tree on the inside of the ball were created using the 3D printer, which is available to trainees and dual students at the RENOLIT training centre.

The development of the product concept began in September 2023, with initial ideas ranging from a picture frame and a table lamp to an Advent wreath and finally a product set with a snow globe and candle that fitted in well with the sales period around Christmas. The creation of a work plan with the design of a prototype was undertaken by four responsible trainees and dual students. By the end of the project in January this year, eight other trainees from the training year had provided support in the manufacture of the products and in marketing and sales to internal customers.

Christoph Hogen, Head of Technical Training at RENOLIT, has been coordinating the project for eleven years. He says: "Through the junior company project, the trainees and dual students at RENOLIT familiarise themselves with the various company processes and structures. In addition, commercial and technical professional groups work closely together and learn to complement each other's knowledge and work together effectively."

For Lea Djabout, an industrial clerk trainee, the junior company is a special experience: "The project was fun and it was exciting to see how a finished product is created from an initial idea. We also learnt how to deal with unexpected problems and manage them as a team," she says. Sebastian Terehin, a trainee media technologist, agrees with his colleague and adds: "I would also recommend the project to other trainees and students, especially if you like challenges," he smiles. "The entire planning and communication with various colleagues from different departments was the biggest challenge for us. However, we complemented each other well as a team and were able to create a great product in the end."

By selling the product set to RENOLIT employees, the trainees and dual students were able to raise a total of 1,210 euros. The entire proceeds were donated to the AWO-Förderverein on 2 April 2024. The money is to be used as financial support for an ice cream van in the summer.
