RENOLIT reaches key milestones in the merger of its Worms and Frankenthal sites
Concept phase has been completed and detailed planning has begun
Worms, 21 May 2026 – One year after the merger of the Worms and Frankenthal sites was announced, RENOLIT is taking stock of the situation and reporting positive progress: the comprehensive concept phase has been completed and detailed planning has begun. In its 80th anniversary year, the internationally active family-owned company is implementing one of the largest investment projects in its history. The aim is to secure RENOLIT’s long-term competitiveness in Germany and to gradually establish a climate-neutral production facility at the Worms site that will be one of the most modern plastic film production sites in the world.
Over the past few months, RENOLIT has been working with a lead contractor to press ahead with the planning of the new plant on the site in Worms. The plans involve extending an existing production building and constructing a new finished goods warehouse and a new raw materials warehouse. In addition, there are plans to expand the existing staff facilities and to create new parking spaces and office space.
The first preparatory construction work will begin in 2026. For example, a new warehouse will be built to gradually put the necessary infrastructure in place. “We are right on schedule,” emphasises project manager Alexander Doppler. “We are currently working on the detailed planning of new buildings, processes and machinery. We will complete this in the summer of 2026. In the second half of 2026, we intend to submit the planning applications on this basis.”
The expansion is also clearly defined in technological terms: several new production lines will be installed in the new production building required for the merger. The first line is already scheduled to come on stream in 2028. This marks not only the start of the phased relocation of production, but also the increasing deployment of staff from Frankenthal at the Worms site as part of the merger.
Securing jobs and building strong teams for the future
For the Frankenthal site, the project represents a structural transformation, but it does not mean a loss of opportunities for the workforce. “Our clear promise remains: all employees from Frankenthal will be offered a job in Worms,” emphasises Executive Board Member Sven Behrendt.
Project Manager Alexander Doppler adds: “The high level of willingness to cooperate and the stability of the two teams from Worms and Frankenthal show that we will successfully shape this transformation together. And the mutual support in terms of machine capacity and staffing clearly demonstrates just how well we function as the RENOLIT team across our sites.”
RENOLIT is investing in forward-looking production and efficiency improvements at its Worms site
The total investment required to transform the plant in Worms into a state-of-the-art production facility is expected to amount to around 130 million euros. Of this, approximately 55 million euros will be spent on production, logistics and administrative buildings, and around 75 million euros on modern production and automation technologies.
Through this merger, RENOLIT is consolidating the production capacities of its Worms and Frankenthal plants. Production volume at the Worms site will thus rise from the current figure of around 24,000 tonnes to 38,000 tonnes per year in future. This represents an increase of over 50 per cent. In addition, the company is significantly improving production efficiency by increasing the level of automation, integrating key production steps and optimising material flows.
Energy independence and carbon neutrality through our own wind farm
The expansion of the plant also goes hand in hand with the construction of the RENOLIT wind farm in Worms, which will play a key role in increasing energy independence and helping the company meet its climate targets. RENOLIT aims to gradually electrify its production and continuously reduce its use of fossil fuels. The use of its own wind energy contributes significantly to stabilising energy costs, which have risen significantly in recent years, particularly in Germany. In addition, energy demand at the Worms site will increase as a result of the site consolidation. The wind farm is intended to be a key lever for meeting this increased energy demand in an environmentally friendly manner. Thanks to modern production and a future independent, climate-neutral energy supply, the company can secure the site’s competitiveness and safeguard jobs at its headquarters in the long term.
