RENOLIT junior employees do social work

18 trainees and dual students from RENOLIT do a social internship at social cooperation partners

Worms, 6 December 2022 - RENOLIT enabled its junior staff to take part in a "social internship" for the first time this year. A total of 18 trainees and dual students took part in the program with AWO Rheinland, Lebenshilfe Worms-Alzey and DRK-Berufsbildungswerk Worms. At an official event, the interns reported on their experiences and presented the cooperation partners with donations in kind totaling 1800 euros.

In October 2022, RENOLIT offered second-year trainees and students the opportunity of a social internship in three social institutions in Worms: the AWO Haus der Generationen Seniorenzentrum Remeyerhof, the day support center of Lebenshilfe or the DRK-Berufsbildungswerk. They each worked for a week on site in the social institutions.

All those involved in the program came together for the closing event at the RENOLIT headquarters in Worms. The junior employees shared their personal experiences with the contact persons of the social institutions as well as the training and study managers, various trainers and the works council representatives of RENOLIT.

"At first I was a bit skeptical about doing an internship in a nursing and old people's home, because I don't see myself in the nursing profession. But I wouldn't want to miss the experience I gained and now have the greatest respect for the work of the nursing staff," said Jonas Beyer, who is training as an industrial clerk at RENOLIT, in his experience report. The new work or activity environment provided a change of perspective for the junior staff and promotes both personal development and social skills.

"We are delighted that this newly launched program has been so well received by both our young employees and our partners. The young people's testimonials and feedback today speak for themselves. With this program, we are training the human side of our junior staff and can provide some support for people with impairments," Markus Blümle, Corporate Human Resources Manager at RENOLIT, is pleased about the new program.

Finally, the 18 graduates of the social internship presented a donation in kind to the Senior Center, the Day Support Center and the Vocational Training Center. The selected things were chosen according to the wishes of the people in the facilities, in order to make them happy. The donation amounts to a total of 1 800 euros.

"The opening of the circle of people within our day support center also allows people with severe and multiple impairments new access. This is inclusion in action, when people who would otherwise probably never have met develop a common language, enter into an exchange. I think these were encounters that moved people, on both sides," says Nora Ringhof, Head of the Day Support Center and Education at Lebenshilfe Worms.

Of aging, dementia and tears - the social internship by Jonas Beyer

Jonas Beyer is currently in his second year of training as an industrial clerk at RENOLIT. He completed his social internship at the AWO Haus der Generationen Seniorenzentrum Remeyerhof in Worms. The 21-year-old completed the one-week internship from October 17 to 21, 2022, together with four colleagues from the industrial company. First, the group around Jonas Beyer was trained in theory. Among other things, the trainees used a nursing mannequin to learn how nurses get residents out of bed and took a wheelchair driving test. They also played with the residents and took part in two integration meetings.

Jonas Beyer experienced a special change of perspective when he slipped into the skin of an elderly person wearing an old-age suit. And as a person suffering from dementia, he had to successfully master various tasks of daily life. But Jonas Beyer was most touched by a wheelchair excursion with some of the residents. When the group passed the Luther monument in Worms, an elderly lady began to cry with joy. Jonas Beyer will never forget this image.
