Nature as a role model: These are the new RENOLIT color and design trends for facades

The new Colour Road Trend Report 2021/22 from RENOLIT REFACE is inspired by natural materials such as wood, stone or slate.

Worms, June 11th, 2021 – "ELEMENTS", "FUNDAMENTAL" and "STATEMENT" – RENOLIT REFACE summarizes the facade trends 2021/22 under these three themes. The film manufacturer's Colour Road trend service provides designers and architects with inspiration and design ideas. This year's trend report "In touch with facade colors" focuses on the haptic experience of natural tones, materials and structures. It is the result of comprehensive trend analyses and research by RENOLIT design experts. "People feel good when they are surrounded by organic materials and elements that touch them emotionally - such as wood, stone, slate, water and metal," explains Monika Haag, Head of Corporate Design Management at RENOLIT. These are things that have accompanied and grounded us for thousands of years. They stand for stability and security. At the same time, they open up the senses: the feel of natural, untreated structures such as the rough surface of a stone or tree trunk conveys a sense of closeness to nature. These are elementary needs, especially in urban areas.

The findings from the trend analyses are manifested in the new colors and decors of Colour Road 21/22: Warm brown tones such as Mountain Pine and Country Oak, which trace the natural grain of wood, dominate the decors - as do various shades of beige and gray, which mimic the appearance of stone and metal and range from light to dark. In between, strong blue tones set color accents, as do a red full of character or soft white. Above all, the interplay of colors and decors results in dynamic facades that radiate both natural and powerful impulses in their appearance.

The Colour Road is a trend service from RENOLIT. The company's design experts regularly identify which decors and colors will define the coming season in an exchange with international designers, product developers and color experts. "For 2021/22, we have identified three main areas that will determine this year's color and design trends for façades," explains Verena Mundle, an expert in corporate design management at RENOLIT. "They are called 'ELEMENTS', 'FUNDAMENTAL' and 'STATEMENT'."

    ELEMENTS: facades for the senses

They surround us every day, calming and inspiring us: the elements of water, earth, air - each with its specific characteristic. The sky and the water let us breathe, they open the senses. The earth gives us the feeling of coming home. This dynamism is also expressed by the new colors and decors Jakarta Teak, Mountain Pine, Brilliant Blue, Steel Blue and Urban Grey. The appeal lies in the interplay of contrasts.

Mountain Pine and Jakarta Teak, for example, have a warm, natural look, while the lines of the grain relax the eye. The decors are based on the wood species pine and teak. The former is one of the most common wood species in Europe. It grows in the mountains and by the sea, where it is exposed to strong winds - this makes it particularly resistant. Teak is a tropical wood that is also durable and highly resistant to weathering. The viewer also associates these character traits with the decors.

The deep steel blue and the lighter brilliant blue, on the other hand, take the mind off into the distance, evoking associations with the depth and infinity of the sea. The combination of colors and decors creates an environment in which sensuality and naturalness enter into a creative dialogue. Urban Grey also fits into this line: the decor with its stone-like appearance creates a beautiful contrast between the elements, analogous to heaven and earth.

FUNDAMENTAL: Striking facades that ground us

The foundation is the ground on which something can be built. It conveys safety and security. The feel of untreated structures grounds us, leads us to our center - like touching a tree trunk or turning a stone in your hand. Facades in Urban Beige, Country Oak, Pure White and Slate Gray exude a great sense of familiarity and reliability. This is transmitted to the viewer - especially in times when personal living space is more central than ever and our attention to what surrounds us is greater than before.

Like hardly any other wood, oak stands for durability - its robust properties and uniform grain make it a favorite in house construction. A facade in Country Oak appears unwavering and stable. But oak also likes it lively: If you arrange the decor alternately horizontally and vertically, the result is a striking new design.
Slate is a rock that has formed over millions of years from clay and mud masses that were once deposited as sediments on the ground - so the trend color Slate Gray represents the foundation par excellence. Urban Beige also quotes stone in its look: the versatile limestone, which is also formed from sediments. Both products stand for an urban base from which forays are possible, and which at the same time represents an ideal retreat. As a light counterpart in the FUNDAMENTAL range appears the color Pure White, which has an off-white tone like linen or eggshell and scores with naturalness.

    STATEMENT: Buildings that express individuality

Making a statement means expressing yourself. In fashion, it means drawing attention to the entire outfit through an eye-catching detail. RENOLIT REFACE facades in Country Oak Brown, Urban Bronze, Urban Anthracite or Brown Red are a statement for a building - a pause, an eye-catcher. They signal individuality and attract attention without being obtrusive, but charming and refined.

A real statement is the combination of Urban Anthracite and Brown Red: The decor in metallic gray embodies depth and character, the mysterious red tone expresses personality and self-confidence.

The two decors Country Oak Brown and Urban Bronze also make a strong statement: Oak is dark and warm, almost sensual. It exudes an atmosphere of careful craftsmanship, of stained or flamed wood. The likewise warm bronze tone with its shades imitates a shimmering metal structure - such surfaces arouse curiosity and raise the question: Who is hiding behind this facade?

    RENOLIT REFACE

RENOLIT REFACE facade film is a self-adhesive multilayer film that can be used to change and renew facades in terms of color. The film is used on smooth facade panels and cassettes made of painted or coated metal, HPL or aluminum. Painting-related preparatory work such as sanding, masking or priming is eliminated - thus, foiling offers cost and time savings. There are no emissions during processing.
The acrylate adhesive used, which develops its full adhesive effect after 24 hours, and a special technology enable the film to be bonded without defects or bubbles.

The film consists of three thin layers: a vinyl base film, a PMMA layer and a final PVDF layer. The specific structure makes it robust to UV radiation, durable and easy to clean. Provided that the film is applied by RENOLIT-certified installers, there is a warranty of at least ten years on color retention and adhesion to the facade.
