[RENOLIT] REFACE News

    Anniversary - RENOLIT turns 75!

    Films for all cases

From the very beginning, RENOLIT has stood for high-quality products in the field of plastic films and products. High-performance films for various applications have been part of RENOLIT's product portfolio since the 1950s.

"From Worms to the world" is how the success story of the family-owned company could be summarized. Originally, RENOLIT Werke GmbH produced imitation leather - today, the RENOLIT product lines include numerous design films for interior and exterior use. In addition to 3D furniture films and self-adhesive films in a wide variety of colors, RENOLIT REFACE as a technology for facade renovation and RENOLIT BENDIT as the first bendable cladding panel, among others, complement the product range of the family-owned company. The spirit of innovation and the constant further development of the products made it possible to sustainably build up the market position and to gain the trust of the customers in the long term. RENOLIT stands, then as now, for products of the highest quality "made in Germany".

The origins of the family business go back to the founding of a leather goods factory in 1927 by Jakob Müller. However, the Second World War caused such a shortage of leather as a raw material that substitute raw materials had to be used. In his search for new possibilities, Jakob Müller found what he was looking for at BASF in Ludwigshafen, which produced Igelit powder - known today by the abbreviation PVC (polyvinyl chloride). This versatile substitute product laid the foundation for the company's focus on PVC processing. Over the course of time, more and more areas of application developed for rigid and flexible PVC film. Together with Lederwerke Heyl, Jakob Müller founded RENOLIT Werke GmbH in Worms on May 4, 1946. The enormous economic success and the constant growth of the company enabled Jacob Müller to buy back the shares of Heyl AG in 1954. RENOLIT thus became an independent family business, which today is jointly managed by the Fischer, Kang, Müller and de Alvear families.

In the following years, RENOLIT not only opened new locations in Germany, but also in Europe, the USA and China. The focus was always on the film business. This began in 1963 with films for furniture surfaces, and since 1977 self-adhesive films have also been produced. Four years later, the production of films for window profiles followed. In addition, RENOLIT has always been active in the development of new products.

Thus, RENOLIT REFACE was born from the idea to offer self-adhesive and highly weather-resistant films for the renovation of metal facade cassettes. The necessary know-how was already available thanks to the Business Unit CONTACT and Business Unit EXTERIOR business units, now called Visual Communication and Exterior Solutions. This was because they produced both self-adhesive films and highly weather-resistant plastic window coating films at RENOLIT's main plant in Worms. After four years of development and testing, the films were launched on the market. In the meantime, various decors (concrete, marble, rust or wood) are available in addition to solid colors, which can deceptively reproduce the respective surface structure. With the new product RENOLIT BENDIT, RENOLIT can also offer a cladding panel that can be configured in a variety of ways and whose film coating does not exhibit any white breakage even when tilted up to 90 degrees.

In addition to the development of new product lines, RENOLIT is also characterized by its future orientation: This includes extensive investments such as the acquisition of a PET plant in Munich for the production of PET-based lacquer laminates for the design of furniture fronts. But sustainability also plays an important role in the company. With the commissioning of a new combined heat and power plant at the site in Worms, the site's annual CO2 emissions can be reduced by twelve percent and a third of its electricity requirements can be covered as a result.

Films for all cases - this is the passion RENOLIT pursues with its more than 4,700 employees in more than 30 subsidiaries in over 20 countries. The competence and expertise in the film business, the product diversity and the opening up of new product lines give RENOLIT a good starting point for the next 75 years to continue the success of the family business.
