RENOLIT closes production site in Thansau

Employees will continue to be employed until the end of September 2022

Rohrdorf-Thansau/Germany, 9 March 2022– The RENOLIT SE production site Thansau of the Market Unit Healthcare will be closed on 31 March 2022. Production already ended on 6 March 2022. The following dismantling work and plant sales are scheduled until the end of May 2022.

The reason for the closure is the negative earnings situation that has affected the production site which, following the acquisition of the Solvay film division, was expanded to produce packaging for the medical sector with a focus on films for infusion solutions. The situation is aggravated by the fact that the market for intravenous (IV) applications as well as for nutritional solutions has come under strong pressure due to the ongoing Corona pandemic. Supplemented by the establishment of an own film production on the customer's side, it is evident, despite all efforts and large investment measures, that the location can neither be managed profitably in the medium nor in the long term.

The products manufactured at the RENOLIT site in Thansau will be produced by the former customers in the future and thus no longer produced by RENOLIT. A small proportion of the remaining products will be taken over by the production site RENOLIT Nederland B.V. in Enkhuizen.

RENOLIT has agreed on a six-month transition for the employees with a transfer company. This means that they will continue to be employed until 30 September 2022 and can participate in qualification measures during this time. However, the employees have the option of transferring from the transfer company to a new employer at any time. Many employees have already signalled that they want to change employers.

RENOLIT also offered employees the opportunity to move to other sites within RENOLIT. The offer was linked to a bonus, a relocation allowance or alternatively a travel allowance for a two year period. Due to the good labour market situation around Rosenheim, only a few employees have accepted the offer so far.
