Film specialist RENOLIT SE and Sobernheimer Rohstoff-Kontor GmbH found recycling joint venture

    25. May 2022 – The international film specialist RENOLIT SE and the recycling company Sobernheimer Rohstoff Kontor GmbH (SRK) have founded a joint venture called KAS Kunststoff-Aufbereitung Bad Sobernheim GmbH to jointly distribute PVC recyclates derived from production residues. The longstanding business partners signed the business agreement on 21 July 2022.

Recycling and the circular economy are becoming increasingly important at RENOLIT. In the past few years, the company has invested in its own recycling technologies in order to achieve the declared goal of a more circular economy and to honour the commitment made to the Circular Plastics Alliance (CPA) to no longer sell residual materials from production to external parties by 2025. Furthermore, sustainability is firmly anchored in the corporate strategy. With the RENOLIT Goes Circular initiative, the company is driving an internally closed circular economy by developing sustainable product solutions - in keeping with the RENOLIT Group's mission statement "We deliver sustainable and innovative polymer solutions".

By founding the joint venture with SRK, in which both partners hold 50 percent of the shares, the plastics processor is going one step further. " With the joint venture, we are increasing our recycling capacities for PVC in order to be able to return more recyclables to our production cycle or to third parties," explains Arndt Ehrlich, head of the RENOLIT Goes Circular department.

The recycling company SRK contributes energy-efficient recycling technologies, the necessary logistics and more than 20 years of experience with the processing of pure polymers from production residues. Every year, the company processes several thousand tonnes of recyclable materials into recyclates (regrind or agglomerate) to sell them to plastics processors or to reincorporate them into the RENOLIT materials cycle.

RENOLIT has been working on the expansion of internal recycling and the development of recycling technologies since 2016 in order to be able to process and recycle the residual materials from its own production. Since the beginning of 2022, the recycling centre at the headquarters in Worms has been equipped with new facilities with which the recyclable materials from the production process are recycled into regranulate, agglomerate or regrind and then returned to the production process as a raw material substitute.
