Newcastle Upon Tyne
Newcastle upon Tyne is 8 miles away from Cramlington and is the most populated city in the north of England. It is a vibrant city, famous for its shopping districts, restaurants and night life. It is home to the famous Tyne Bridge and Newcastle United Football Club and hosts the world renowned Great North Run every year, Europe's largest half marathon.
The regional nickname and dialect for people living in Newcastle and the surrounding areas is Geordie.
The Farne Islands
The Farne Islands lie off the Northumberland coast and are the most famous Sea Bird Sanctuary in the British Isles as well as having a large colony of Atlantic or Grey Seals. There are approximately 100,000 pairs of breeding birds in the height of the season, these include puffins and terns.
Alnwick Castle
The second largest inhabited castle in the UK, Alnwick castle was used as a location for the first two Harry Potter films
Bamburgh Castle
Bamburgh castle dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, when Bamburgh was the capital of the kingdom of Northumbria. It is a spectacular castle which has fantastic coastal views.
Hadrian's Wall
Hadrian's Wall was built on the orders of the Emperor Hadrian after his visit to Britain in AD 122 to separate the barbarians from the Romans. It is approximately 73 miles wide and stretches from coast to coast.
Today it is possible to visit the ruins of towns, forts, turrets and towers that once kept watch over the wall. Hadrian's Wall became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
The wall offers fantastic landscapes, rare wildlife and many cosy pubs.
Druridge Bay
Druridge Bay is a stunning seven mile stretch of sand which runs from Cresswell to Amble in Northumberland. Coastal areas at the bay are designated nature reserves, rich in wildlife.
The Angel of the North
The Angel of the North is one of the most famous public artworks in the UK. Designed by Antony Gormley, the Angel has been welcoming people to the north east since 1998. The steel sculpture stands 20m tall with its wings spanning 54m wide.
