The Worms-based, family-owned company RENOLIT SE will celebrate its 70th birthday on May 4, 2016. Since its beginnings, the independent family-owned company has developed into the international market leader and innovation driver in the film industry. According to the German business magazine “WirtschaftsWoche”, the company has been among the 20 most successful “Hidden Champions” in Germany since 2011.
In the chaotic post-war period, the Kirn-based leather manufacturer Jacob Müller founded the Renolit-Werke GmbH. Originally, the company started with the objective of replacing leather which was scarce after the war, with high-performance plastic films. Since then, the fields of application have changed dramatically: Today, RENOLIT manufactures high-quality plastic films and associated products for a wide variety of industries.
RENOLIT thermoplastic films provide furniture, building components and consumer electronics with a decorative surface finish, they seal roofs, underground structures and line swimming pools. The company produces films and tubes for medical applications and recyclable composite panels incorporating natural fibres for the building sector and automotive industry. RENOLIT film is also used as a key material for office management supplies, in the interiors of vehicles, in self-adhesive products for the graphic design and labelling industry and in technical products.
Founded as a small plastic factory on the premises of a large Worms-based leather manufacturer, the company has become a spectacular success story. In the meantime, the original workforce of seven has grown to over 4,500 worldwide. The independent, family-owned company is now the RENOLIT Group with about three dozen locations around the world. With a number of takeovers and acquisitions in recent years, the Group has further expanded its position as a leading international manufacturer of plastic films and products.
A major success factor over the last 70 years has been the continuous refinement and development of new products. The most prominent example for a RENOLIT development is probably the company’s films for window frame profiles which are still an important line of business for the company.
Current product novelties include a special film for the renovation and redesign of building facades while a backsheet barrier film represents an entry into the photovoltaic market. With the composite material RENOLIT GORCELL, the company’s lineup now includes a much-demanded solution for light-weight construction, for example, in the automotive industry.
But the RENOLIT Chairman, Michael Kundel, sees the main reason for this impressive development in another area: “The most important factor in the success of our company are our well-trained and highly motivated employees”. And they are pleased to return this appreciation: According to a ranking by the German news magazine “Focus” which was partially based on the evaluation of employees, the family-owned company is one of the best employers in Germany.
Michael Kundel see the company well positioned for the future: “Thanks to our innovative products and our excellent workforce, I am convinced that we will continue our sustainable growth of the last few years”. And one thing above all is important to the Chairman: “That we always remain a reliable partner with high-quality products and services for our customers”.
The RENOLIT Group is an international leader in the manufacture of high-quality plastic films and related products for technical applications. This independent family-owned business, which has been setting benchmarks for quality and innovation for 70 years, now employs a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees at more than 30 production sites and sales entities.
