SUSTAINABILITY, UP TO 43% ENERGY SAVINGS USING SPECIAL RENOLIT ALKORPLAN PRODUCTS

As reported in the study on the behavior of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing membranes in three different climates of Europe carried out by CIRCE Foundation

Sant Celoni, Barcelona, 29 March 2021 43% in Spain, 37% in France and 19% in Finland: this is energy saved in the cooling of a building using RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Bright compared to the standard product RENOLIT ALKORPLAN. A research on the environmental and energetic impact of its products requested by RENOLIT, carried out by CIRCE Foundation, a technology center founded in 1993 that operates to provide innovative solutions for sustainable development. The study is part of a strategy of increasing attention initiated by RENOLIT - a multinational corporate specializing in membranes, films and other high quality plastic products - including analysis on environment, society and employees. The study compared the energy and environmental behavior of some innovative products (RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Bright, RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart Ivory and RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart Grey) with the long-established RENOLIT ALKORPLAN.

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Bright combines the quality and advantages of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roof membranes, being highly efficient in reflecting the sun’s rays. RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart products are a powerhouse of innovation and technology based on the 'less is better' principle - being only 1.2 or 1.5 mm thick, they can provide not only hydraulic sealing, mechanical and chemical resistance, but also energy saving, sustainability, versatility, nice appearance, and increased durability.

The starting point of the comparative analysis - performed through an energetic simulation through the DesignBuilder simulation software - was obviously the building, chosen with standard characteristics (warehouse with office area) and taking into account variables such as mode of use, exposure, hours of lighting, features of the heating and ventilation system. Second element is the analysis of the energy behavior of the building in three different climatic areas. For the simulation Spain, France and Finland were identified, European countries where RENOLIT is also operating but mainly representative of the climates of southern, central and northern Europe. The simulation has finally assumed a life cycle of 90 years, that is with two remaking of the covering, since the quality of a product can be evaluated only in the long term.

The study involves several steps but the first results of summer cooling already provide several indications. The use of the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart Grey saves 14% in Spain, 11% in France and 5% in Finland. However, RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart Ivory offers energy savings of 24% in Spain, 21% in France and 10% in Finland. By using RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Bright, the reduction in energy demand for cooling goes up to 43% in Spain, 37% in France and 19% in Finland. The study carried out with CIRCE is still ongoing and in the coming months there will be new results. "The collaboration with CIRCE is key to us - says Luca Gottardi, Marketing Director of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products -. The care for the environment and social responsibility are the building blocks of our corporate culture. As a result, the commitment to produce more and more sustainable products, from lifetime to energy saving to attention to recycling, is paramount».
