Light, stable, thermo-formable and in tune with nature: RENOLIT GORCELL is a product with an exciting future. Qualified visitors at the fifth German WPC Conference in Cologne also recognized these qualities and voted this composite the winner of the WPC Innovation Prize 2013. At the official awards ceremony, Sales & Marketing Manager Axel Kulke from RENOLIT COMPOSITES and Kathrin Eckhardt from the RENOLIT SE Corporate Communications department accepted the prize.
“We are very proud of RENOLIT GORCELL and the excellent cooperation within our company. With this product, we succeeded in combining our decades of experience in manufacturing wood-plastic composite panels with our light-weighting and innovative surfaces expertise. New versions of RENOLIT GORCELL can be developed by the combination with products from other business units and many new fields of application will thus be created. Winning the WPC Innovation Prize is a welcome acknowledgement of our work and an additional incentive to continue developing innovative lightweight products in the future” said Axel Kulke.
RENOLIT GORCELL is produced at the Italian RENOLIT plant in Buriasco. The continuous and energy-efficient manufacturing process with a honeycomb technology from the company EconCore is unique in this form in Europe. Combining RENOLIT composite sheets with an ultra-light honeycomb structure results in a material with numerous positive characteristics. For example, the WPC panels withstand high pressures at the same time as being waterproof. Combining these with materials such as nonwovens, anti-scratch films, various fibers or decorative RENOLIT films, makes RENOLIT GORCELL highly versatile. If this is then thermoformed, complex elements which are both light and highly resilient can be created. An additional benefit: RENOLIT GORCELL can be fully recycled. And all process wastes are recycled by RENOLIT back into the production process.
Light, durable, easy to process, cost effective and recyclable – with these properties, RENOLIT GORCELL offers completely new opportunities for application areas ranging from the automotive industry to the furniture industry, to the sport and leisure industries and to the transport industry.
The participants of the fifth German WPC Conference were not the first to recognize the advantages of RENOLIT GORCELL: Back in January 2013, RENOLIT GORCELL won the first “Material of the Month Award 2013” by Material ConneXion in Cologne. In October, the lightweight material won the Silver Award in the category “Product” at the MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award 2013.
The WPC Innovation Prize is awarded by the German WPC Conference. Only innovative products qualify which are already being produced or which are close to market roll out. Of the many thousands of applications, six are pre-selected and these make a ten-minute presentation to the WPC Conference. The Conference participants then choose the winner from these six products. The second place this year went to Kappes Environment Technology Co. Ltd. (KET) for ECOLIFE®, window frame profiles made from recycled plastics. The participants awarded the third place prize to a structurally-foamed WPC for modular cable manhole systems from the companies Langmatz GmbH and SKZ-KFE gGmbH.
The RENOLIT Group is an international leader in the manufacture of high-quality plastic films and related products for technical applications. This independent family-owned business, which has been setting benchmarks for quality and innovation for over 65 years, now employs a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees at more than 30 production sites and sales entities.
