Chinese kitchen manufacturer wins the first Colour Road Star Award
In Deidesheim, Rhineland-Palatinate on 8 December 2011, a jury of renowned international experts selected the 2011 winner of the first “Colour Road Star Award” offered by the RENOLIT DESIGN business unit. The prize went to a kitchen from the Chinese manufacturer OM HOME. The company’s innovative and stylish use of 3D films from RENOLIT DESIGN’s extensive range including Colour Road 2011/12 collection trend colours, as well as the overall form and distinctive kitchen concept played a key role in the jury’s decision.
The expert jury was made up of five international colour and product design specialists: Ellen Gremo from the renowned Swedish colour institute NCS Colour AB; Le Vin Chin, Business Manager Pigments Europe, and Editor-in-Chief of XYMARA.com, BASF SE; product designer Filip Roscam who advises Merck KGaA customers as an expert for colour trends and effect colours; David Gauthier, Colour Design Manager Europe at PPG Deutschland Business Support GmbH; and Monika Fecht, Head of Corporate Design Management, RENOLIT SE.
A total of 19 furniture designs made it onto the shortlist, but only one of them could win. As it turned out, the standard was very high and each individual jury members assessment had to be considered until the short list was agreed. After further deliberation it was the Chinese manufacturer OM Home that emerged unanimously as the winner.
With its exciting use of the Makassar Natural high-gloss film on the carcass of a boat-shaped kitchen island, OM Home presented a kitchen idea which, in spite of its highly innovative surfaces and overall design, did not lose sight of the functional aspect of a kitchen.
The trophy which was specially designed for the occasion and the prize of an Apple iPad will be presented to the winner during Interzum Guangzhou 2012 (27th-30th March 2012, Guangzhou, China).
With OM HOME, the jury chose a worthy winner with an exciting product. This year, Karsten Jänicke, Business Unit Manager at RENOLIT DESIGN, hopes to see more European companies taking part in the competition. After all, a number of the new kitchen models which are featured in the current Colour Road Trend Brochure 12/13 definitely have what it takes to win an award.
