The performance of Cova XL exterior grade veneers has been significantly improved by the integration of a unique combination of enhanced technical properties into the existing range of woodgrain designs and plain colour finishes.  Research amongst users of exterior grade veneers identified four key areas where improvements were perceived as being particularly beneficial.  RENOLIT Cramlington subsequently invested in a major programme of development and testing to bring these extra benefits to the Cova XL range.

HEAT RESISTANCE

Increasing sales of windows to countries with warmer climates, the diversification of profile applications and concern over global warming all contribute to a growing awareness of the problems associated with heat build-up.  The new improved Cova XL has been extensively tested, comparing its heat build-up resistance to the previous standard Cova XL and competitors’ materials.  All designs within the Cova XL range show a significant reduction in heat build-up.  The most impressive results show a reduction of up to 12oC in heat build-up on the darker colours.

SCRATCH RESISTANCE

Even with film protection, laminated profiles can suffer surface damage before installation is complete.  Fabrication, handling, transport and fitting all offer potential threats.  Small scratches and marring of the surface can affect the performance of the foil and may also result in complaints from customers about the appearance of their new windows.  Cova XL is now supplied with the new Sovereign emboss, designed to substantially reduce the visibility of slight surface scratching and marring.  The end result is better looking windows and fewer complaints from customers.

WEATHERABILITY

The globalisation of window brands means that new geographical markets are constantly being developed.  This sets new challenges in terms of weathering performance for exterior grade veneers.  The technical advances achieved by RENOLIT Cramlington have significantly improved Cova XL’s weatherability against fading.  This provides added confidence to customers in existing markets and will allow us to meet the performance requirements of more extreme climate conditions in the newly developing markets.

PROCESSABILITY

Because of increased market competition and constantly rising raw material costs, manufacturing processes need to be as efficient as possible in order to maximise profitability.  A key improvement to the Cova XL range makes this goal more achievable.  Cova XL can now be laminated at higher speed with a reduction in heat application.  In addition, Cova XL now performs even better on the more intricate profile shapes preferred by many discerning customers.
