Comparison of Lamination with Other Finishing Methods

High-performance, technically advanced films are replacing traditional color options employed to surface profiles.  The reasons for this change includes significant processing and performance advantages -such as:

  • Ease of maintenance
  • Low cost overall
  • Extreme weatherability - moisture and temperature resistant
  • Outstanding durability - wont chalk, fade or crack
  • Availabile in a variety of beautiful woodgrains and a rainbow of solid colors
  • 10 year warranty in the US and Canada

Compare the benefits of profile wrapping with Renolit film against alternate finishing methods:

  • Paint.  A thinner finish that normally has less color fastness. Process requires costly, heat-robbing ventilation equipment and is subject to strict environmental regulations. The full process can be cumbersome - usually multipe coats.  If you capture your true total costs it can be an expensive process.  Finish is less durable - chips easily from manufacture to install.  Painted products often ship with a touch up can.  In the end is a less durable product that typically does not weather nearly as well as laminated products.

  • Capstocking / Co-extrusion.  Increases cost due to color matching, color changeovers and purge waste. Also high tooling costs.  Inconsistancy after tooling wear, then another tooling investment.  Slow process, slower than traditional extrusion.  Higher speed tooing = more cost.  An individual tool is needed for each profile in the series (approx 4 to 7 per series) In the end capped product typically does not weather nearly as well as laminate products.
